Trent Taylor has been onboard with Calagri, a division of Pacific Ag, for more than 10 years. He joined the company as an operator in 2004 at the age of 16, and served in various capacities including crew leader and farm manager as he worked his way up to his current position of assistant operations manager.

“Every day is different,” Trent said, when asked what he enjoys most about his work. “There is always a new challenge to overcome, and you have to envision new scenarios and solutions.”

Trent’s primary responsibilities require him to make sure all of the company’s crews are in the right place at the right time, and with the right equipment. He continues to do a little farm management and harvesting work as well.

Trent notes current challenges in the industry as policy- and labor-driven. “You have to make sure you’re in compliance with new laws as they come out,” he said. He added that the company is going to colleges to recruit interns for summer labor as a means to help address shortages. “We look for people pursuing agriculture degrees, and create an internship that will fit their program,” he said. “We give them real-world, hands-on experience.”

Trent grew up on a cattle feed lot in Eastern Washington, and fell in love with the agriculture industry. His work at Calagri helped finance his college education. “I’d like to own a farm or ranch someday,” he said. When he’s not working, Trent enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, back-country backpacking with horses, or heading into the mountains.
